'Voice of Revival' 1960 v02 n04 p02

Was Noel Hollins drunk when he wrote this? How anyone could see Nazism, Fascism and Communism in that verse is beyond me. To say that the three 'isms' pushed out propaganda and this likens them to 'croaking frogs' is a big stretch. But then to claim that Hitler and Mussolini's warmongering was 'miraculous' is even more of a stretch.

But where Noel really fails is when he says,
'The Bible prophecies that the third, Communism, will produce the climax of the age, Armageddon'.
Like Noel, Communism has failed. It has lost its power and hold over all but one country (North Korea). The rest have abandoned it completely (former Soviet Bloc) or hold on to it in name only (China, Cuba and Vietnam). So sorry Noel, but Communism didn't, and will never, usher in Armageddon.

Verdict: FAIL!

It's hard to believe that Lloyd Longfield expected anyone to take this article seriously as the Revival Centres are a breakaway from the CRC which was a split from the AoG. The funniest thing is that not long after writing this article, Lloyd Longfield registered the Revival Centres as a denomination with the Australian government.

Verdict: Hypocrisy!

It is likely that the above piece is some kind of Christian urban legend. While I could not find the myth's origins, I did discover that,
Since the 1940's most of the planetariums in the western world have presented a show on the Star of Bethlehem in what has become one of the newer Christmas customs. As the first Christmas shows are older than most planetariums (and most planetarians!) we have learned from each other and from those who went first and for the most part we all present shows that are quite similar and that have not changed dramatically in at least a generation. (source)
It seems that the Revival Centre article here has embellished the story somewhat and tried to change what was an intentionally designed Christmas show at a planetarium into some kind of accidental discovery proving the biblical birth narrative of Jesus.

Of this fictitious story, Creationists Tim LaHaye and John Morris wrote,
'Later testimony revealed that that account -- even the name Roskovitsky -- was 95% fiction, but other Russian soldiers have told of hearing of an expedition mounted in 1917 to discover Noah's Ark, based on something in a lake spotted from the air.' (source)

The UK and Commonwealth Nations are today less Christian than ever and yet the Soviets never attacked the 'Anglo-Saxon-Celtic nations'. In fact, due to immigration, there are a plethora of 'gentile' religions now practised in these countries. So much for national repentance repelling the Soviet advance. Of course the Soviet Union also no longer exists.

To British Israelists, August 23, 1953 was a very important day. It was the day that was to at least begin the ushering in of Christ's return (if not his actual return). As one writer noted,
Anglo-Israel's outstanding Pyramid work is a monumental tome, the size of a volume of the Encyclopedia Britannica, called The Great Pyramid: Its Divine Message. It was written by David Davidson, a structural engineer in Leeds, England, and first published in 1924.  A revised eighth edition appeared in 1940. The book is based on Smyth, with important differences in the prophetic section. The "Final Tribulation" of the Anglo-Saxon peoples was to begin in 1928 and extend to 1936. From September 16, 1936 until August 20, 1953, the Anglo-Saxons—i.e., the "true" Israel—will be brought together and given divine protection against a coalition of world powers seeking to destroy them. This will be the Armageddon period, terminated by the return of Christ.  (source)
The Revival Centres adopted their beliefs in British-Israel and Pyrmidology from their beginnings in the National Revival Crusade (later known as the Commonwealth Revival Crusade). That the NRC held August 20, 1953 in high regard can be seen on the cover of their first publication of that year.

There is no doubt that even Lloyd Longfield himself believed and publicly taught the significance of this date as shown below in a 1952 edition The National Revivalist:

Of course when this date came and went without any significant occurrence, British-Israelists, including the NRC, had to reinterpret it.

So by the time we get to the Revival Centre article in question, 1953 had well and truly passed. We can see John Durrant's attempt to maintain the date as significant by claiming it was the 'End of the generation in which all will be fulfilled.' It is clear from Durrant's language that he truly believed Christ's return was imminent. And yet, here we all are more than half a century on from 1953! While some older Revivalists might recall the days when they revered the date somewhat, modern Revivalists would have no knowledge of its significance at all as it is simply not mentioned any more.

So there is little doubt that the Revival Centres and even its founder have been involved with setting a date relevant to the return of Jesus Christ. Contrast this with the Revival Centres International statement on date-setting in which they claim they have never been party to this practice. While they might argue this date was never declared as 'the day of the Lord,' it was certainly supposed to signify the beginning of the end and this certainly never came to pass.

In this article, Lloyd Longfield tries to persuade his readers that the Bible 'wonderfully' identifies Russia as the hammer and sickle (as this was the Communist symbol on the Soviet flag). The fact that he needed to merge two completely unrelated verses from totally different books of the Bible to make this claim didn't seem to deter Longfield at all.

Longfield's prediction of the eventual destruction of the Soviet Union is simply false. While the Soviets certainly lost control over Russia, the counter revolution was mostly peaceful and Russia was anything but destroyed. In fact, Russia is still one of the most powerful nations in the world today. Even if Russia were destroyed at some stage in the future, it no longer identifies with the hammer (or sickle) thus making the verse in Jeremiah irrelevant.

Longfield also claimed that god had brought the Soviets down on these nations 'as chastisement' for rejecting him. Of course we can now look at Longfield's claims with scorn as the former Eastern Bloc nations are just as irreligious as they once were and yet are now free Democratic nations. In fact, Poland's resistance against Communism was influenced heavily by Pope John Paul II (himself Polish) and the Catholic Church, and any good Revivalist will tell you that they believe the Catholic Church is anything but an instrument of god.

Verdict: FAIL!
